  1. Any chance there could ever be a downloadable version I could run on my own PC?

A downloadable version would be nice, not sure how feasible it is. I could probably mess with it if you made the code open source.

      • In your simulations, what's the average point total of the last MLS clubs to miss the playoffs (6th in East and West Conferences)?

Seems like this would be a good way to estimate to the point total clubs in each conference should be shooting for.

            Good question Matt,

I think open-sourcing the probability calculator part is a great idea. By which I mean the part that weights each team and then uses team weights to weight game outcomes.
All the hard stuff, the “Pythag” stuff, is not my work anyway. And there is lots of room for improvement in my parts, like regressing to mean and factoring home field advantage etc.

The Monte Carlo part, that runs the sim, records the results, and presents it in a cool way (ie, the rest of the engine), I want to keep as my baby, for now anyway.

But I want to make a public read/write API for getting at the scores. That data belongs to everybody. And I could use help making web pages and apps to update the data.

I might want to make a (non public?) API for getting at the computed data (the odds),…

          • Update the soccer pages to the latest seasons

It looks like several of the soccer leagues are still only displaying seasons that have already finished. It would be nice to see the data for the current seasons.

              • examine the Los Angeles Kings stats for friday 3/30 v. Edmonton

The "what if" hover shows that if the Kings win in Shootout they gain 5.7, if they win in OT they gain 5.5. OT has impact re ROW tie-breaker to the positive effect, stats shows a net negative effective. Seems counter-intuitive.

                • use difference in RPI and historical 11th game to load coin

well, really, I suggest using a pluggable coin loading system ... but over the course of the season, build up a database of 11th games (given the last 10 of team x, last 10 of team y, what's the outcome, key by rpi difference); the load of the coin becomes, lookup the result and rpi difference for all 11th games for matchups with similar 10 game streaks as the current teams, weight those by rpi distance from current game. now I have a propertly loaded coin.

                    • Hover Definition

A mouse hover over an abbreviated stat category should show its definition. For example, I have no idea what RPI means.

                      • Projected Final Points

I would love to see the projected final points for all teams. Would be good for projecting draft order as the season comes to an end. Would be nice to see a graph of it as well as the season goes.

Take the "what if" data and determine the total "count" at each point total. Then divide the counts by the total count to get the percentage of times it happens. Multiply the result by the total points and then sum the answers.

This would give a weighted point total based on the simulations.

                        Simplified Example:

                        A team finished with…

                        • Early season odds are too dramatic

Looking at teams like the Oilers, Wild (and even the Sharks more recently) - all three teams were rated high-80's+% to make the playoffs in Nov/Dec, and now all three are poised to miss the playoffs (the first two by a lot). On the flip side, the Devils and Senators were <20% before Christmas, and are now postseason locks. I just think teams are being "locked" into a position far too early with not enough accounting for natural league parity taking its course.

                            • Is there any chance of finding the NHL standings on 1 pt for tie 3 pts for win? no overtime.

Change all the OTL and OT wins to ties and give them one point then change the OTW to one point from three points.

I can help add the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for next season. I suspect it is no more difficult than the NHL. How difficult is it to do this? Where do you get your source of data?

                                • The Maple Leafs lost (-6.1%) but Tampa won (+1.6%)... where'd the -9.39% come from?

If Toronto lost to the Canucks for a decrease of 6.1% but Tampa beating Washington, helping the Leafs 1.6% how is Toronto's daily increase/decrease "down 9.4"?

If you build a (free, read-only) RESTful API serving out XML or JSON, I can build a mobile app that would allow users to view basic predictor information such as playoff probability with a graph or the effect of the most recent (past and upcoming) games on a team's playoff chances. If people want more in-depth information, they could click through to view the full site on their device.

                                    • Show what the chances are of each game outcome happening.

For example, if team A plays team B, we should be able to see the probability of each team winning (as well as probability of tie/etc.) as calculated by the engine.

                                        • investigate remaining games used to calc seed probabilities in NFL.

For example, Arizona uses 10 games to achieve 2 seed on Nov 1, 2011.
